So, whats up with the logo?
You may have guessed already, Doug loves to fish. It is a close second to the love of his family. The Fish Hook is a "Makau", which is a symbol of strength and prosperity based on the history and legends of Polynesian culture. The Makau was an invaluable tool for providing food to sustain the "ohana" (family)*.
Carved from bone, shell, or wood and tied together with natural fibers, this simple tool provided a creative and resourceful solution to the fundamental need for regular sustenance in the Polynesian culture. The pure creativity of the solution and the creator's knowledge of the sea, influencing successful design, yielded the greatest catch. The most successful carvers and fishermen were one of the most important members of the local village and highly respected. The circular shape was developed to catch fish effectively and not catch the sea turtle, which was regarded as a god and sacred.
The parallels to the goals of good marketers producing effective high quality materials is not hard to see. A well conceived and executed project will yield plentiful results from it's targeted market. The most knowledgeable producers of quality marketing materials are often held in high regard for their quality cost effective executions.
The natural beauty of the shape and materials of the Makau along with it's rich cultural history made it a natural choice for our logo.
